Welcome to the Lough Neagh and Lower Bann Wetlands Lough Neagh is situated in the centre of Northern Ireland. It is the largest freshwater lake in the British Isles and is very shallow for its size. The Lower Bann River leaves Lough Beg at Toome, widens at Lough Neagh and the Estuary before it enters the Atlantic to the north between Portstewart and Castlerock

A wetland is an area covered by shallow water or wet soil during certain parts of the year. The Lough Neagh and Lower Bann Wetlands are made up of Lough Neagh, Lough Beg, the satellite lakes, Lower Bann river, associated waterways and low surrounding hinterland.
