Sustainable Development is defined as "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (Brundtland Commission, 1987)
Planning and Sustainable recreational development
The Planning system has the principal role in determining where infrastructure is located in the Lough Neagh Wetlands. Lough Neagh is covered by 9 different Area Plans. These are:
